Five things you probably don't know about me:

1. I played orchestra bells in my junior high and high-school bands.
2. I worked as a lifeguard in my hometown during the summers as a youth.
3. I made my first dollar planting bamboo at a neighbours house.
4. We're expecting the birth of our first child this February.  (Well, lot's of people know this... but not many in the blogosphere).
5. I often prefer leftovers to the actual meal.

Feedflares

I added a couple of feedflares, and inadvertently republished the blog.  Apologies for those who are getting all the republished posts in the rss feed.  The feedflares are ones created by Richard Akerman, who created a Google Bookmark This and a Connotea This flare.  These are currently featured at at Feedburners Publisher Buzz.

Starting point

For awhile now I've been considering starting a blog on the topic of enterprise architecture.  Inspired and encouraged by my colleague Richard Akerman of Science Library Pad fame, I've finally decided to give it a go.  Richard tells me that it's alot of work, and quite time consuming to blog seriously, and I believe him.

I've chosen a topic, architecture - specifically enterprise architecture and its related fields - upon which I feel I can contribute some insights.  It's likely I'll diverge from time to time into some other interests, but hopefully I'll stay mainly on track.

I work for the National Research Council of Canada at the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI).  CISTI is mandated to be a national science library for Canada, and initiated an enterprise architecture practice just over two years ago.  I am a technology architect, specializing mostly in enterprise and application architecture.  Before this new role, I worked in a variety of positions including web and application development, project management, system administration, data analysis, database development for a variety of organizations (mainly government at different levels).

Hopefully through this blog I will be able share some of my past, and ongoing experience of enterprise architecture.
