Just a quick list-down of the resources to help eliminate unwanted phone calls, faxes and junk mail. In signing up for the recently implemented Canadian Do-not-call list - I found I wanted to collect these things together for a number of people - so here it is:
- The National Do-not-call List (Canada): Add your home, fax, cell numbers to the do not call list to help eliminate telemarketers in 30 days or less - however, exceptions are granted for charities, political parties, political candidates and newspaper subscriptions. Also - an exception is granted to businesses with whom you've a previous relationship. Need to renew it every 3 years.
- To combat some of the holes in the National list - Michael Geist created the very cool iOptOut service - that will send some of the aforementioned exceptional parties direct emails to ensure your numbers (up to 3) are removed from their internal do-not-call lists - and that it's kept up to date with regard to new businesses/organizations. You can pick and choose who you'd like to receive calls from - or default to removing all of them.
- Finally - about junk (snail) mail - Checkout the Red Dot Campaign. Particularly their suggestion of using the Canadian Marketing Associations Do Not Contact Service.
Hope I've helped. Death to telemarketing!
